Bundy Refrigeration, a leader in refrigeration solutions, has announced a significant investment in a solar power project that reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable operations and energy efficiency. The project at its state-of-the-art facility in Turkey aligns with broader global goals and sets a precedent for future sustainability initiatives.

Investing in a Sustainable Future

Bundy Refrigeration has invested a total of $1.25 million in the installation of solar panels, including roof strengthening. This substantial investment furthers the company’s primary objective of reducing its carbon footprint – manufacturing refrigeration components with a lower carbon content – and aligning with broader goals of environmental responsibility.

Meeting Production Needs Sustainably

The company aims to meet about a third of its annual energy consumption, which usually falls within the range of 4.2 to 4.5 million kWh. This represents a significant step toward reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, allowing Bundy Refrigeration to operate more sustainably. While the solar installation will not directly increase production capabilities, it will result in an eco-friendly manufacturing process, benefiting long-term sustainability strategies and investment in equipment and product development.

A Positive Impact on the Environment

By opting for Half-cell Monofacial PV modules, using new generation mono PERC cells, the company anticipates reducing its carbon emissions by approximately 1,535 tonnes annually. This is equivalent to planting around 83,000 trees every year. Additionally, the project will avoid the generation of waste commonly associated with fossil fuel-based energy production. Bundy Refrigeration’s efforts in Turkey will make a significant contribution to its global strategy of reducing annual energy consumption by 10%.

An Eye on Global and Local Targets

This investment aligns well with Turkey’s future energy goals, which aim to increase the share of renewable sources from 17.7% to 27.7% by 2035. The solar panels, provided by HSA Energy and installed by Entegro Energy Systems, will also contribute to positive environmental impacts within the local community, including reduced soil and air pollution, and minimised energy losses due to short transmission lines.

Future Plans and Ongoing Commitments

Bundy Refrigeration is not stopping at solar energy. Among its long-term goals is the aim to fully switch to sustainable, environmentally friendly energy sources. The company also plans to revise plant and machinery for greater energy efficiency and engage in regular tree-planting activities.

Inan Onelge, Bundy Refrigeration’s Vice President Turkey said: “By integrating environmental, financial, and societal benefits, this solar panel project clearly highlights our comprehensive approach to sustainability. The investment will make a lasting impact on both our operational efficiency and environmental footprint.”

Bundy Refrigeration is a leading global provider of heat transfer and cooling solutions with a strong commitment to sustainability and efficient energy usage. With this solar energy project, the company sets a valuable precedent for its other locations and continues to be one step ahead in meeting and exceeding customer expectations. The company operates from facilities in Brazil, Turkey, Germany, Hungary, and Italy and employs 800 people worldwide.
